Arabic Tutors – Fall Semester – 2021

  • Hi! My name is Katie and I have studied Arabic for two years. I started studying Arabic in 2018 through a program at BYU and studied in Rabat, Morocco through the NSLI-Y program in 2019. I love learning about the linguistics of Arabic and how it varies across dialects. Though I’m currently focusing on MSA, I hope to learn more Darija to communicate better with friends in Rabat. After travelling to Morocco, I also became very interested in learning about Gnawa music, its history, and its role in Moroccan society.

  • Hi! My name is Grethel, and I am an Arabic and journalism fourth year. I began formally studying Arabic in Fall 2018 and conducted research/took courses in Morocco in Summer 2019. I was the recipient of the UF J.F. Mohammed Arabic Language Scholarship last year and a finalist for the FLAS African Studies grant and SALAM Oman program, which were canceled in Summer 2020 due to the pandemic. I have worked at The Independent Florida Alligator in various roles, currently serving as Features and Investigations Editor. After graduation, I hope to work as a journalist in the Arab world, telling stories of the region and its people in both English and Arabic.
