    Overview<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    The world is becoming increasingly connected. Yet, the benefits of globalization have not been shared equally across the regions. What makes regions competitive? Why are some cities more innovative than others? How do borders affect human flows and ideas?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The aim of this course is to study the spatial causes and consequences of uneven development. The course provides a general introduction to economic geography, a science examining how societies, firms and states use space through their economic activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The course first discusses the concepts developed in economic geography to understand uneven economic development across the world. It then examines how money, states, firms and workers reshape the global economic landscape. Finally, the course considers the territorial consequences of uneven development for local societies, firms and regions, and discusses possible policies that can contribute to reducing territorial disparities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Goals<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    By the end of this course, students will be able to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. analyze<\/strong> and discuss<\/strong> the fundamental concepts of economic geography (EG)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    2. understand<\/strong> the key processes of EG<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    3. find<\/strong> and use<\/strong> economic data<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    4. apply<\/strong> the theoretical and analytical tools of EG to empirical case studies<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    5. write<\/strong> a research paper<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
