Navigating non-academic math careers

Abstract:
After earning my PhD in math at UF in 2014, I spent the next decade in government and industry, working variously as a data scientist, operations researcher, management consultant, technical director, and other buzzwords. I’ve also run hiring programs, conducting and overseeing hundreds of interviews of researchers looking to make a career change. The skills needed to complete a degree in mathematics are highly applicable to a variety of areas, but applicants and hiring managers often struggle to speak the same language.

In this talk, I’ll share some experiences with industry and government career paths, and some tips and guidelines for finding and attaining math careers outside of the academy.
