Dr. Chen is happy to write letters of recommendation for students that take her courses or participate in the Chen Lab. She prefers to write letters of recommendation for students for students she has a close relationship with (students who attend her office hours, students in the Chen Lab, etc.). Dr. Chen is able to write stronger letters of recommendation for these students as she has a better understanding of their personality and work ethic.
Dr. Chen is guaranteed to write letters of recommendation for any students that acquire at least 250 hours of work in her lab.
If you would like to request a letter of recommendation from Dr. Chen, please follow these instructions carefully. First, fill out this form and send it to Dr. Chen (chenshanting@ufl.edu) at least four weeks prior to the due date of your first application. This form informs Dr. Chen of what the letter is for and how she can best highlight your achievements. In this email, please also include a copy of your personal statement that you are using for your applications. Once Dr. Chen reviews these materials, she will email you back stating whether or not she will write a letter for you.
Dr. Chen ensures that the letter she writes will convey your strengths and be free of gender and racial bias.
