{"id":249,"date":"2022-03-18T14:13:58","date_gmt":"2022-03-18T18:13:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/people.clas.ufl.edu\/davidson\/?page_id=249"},"modified":"2026-05-07T23:58:48","modified_gmt":"2026-05-08T03:58:48","slug":"the-slave-narrative","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/people.clas.ufl.edu\/davidson\/courses\/the-slave-narrative\/","title":{"rendered":"The Slave Narrative"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"fullwidth-text-block\"><div class=\"container px-0\"><div class=\"row align-items-start\"><div class=\"col-12\">\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\">The Slave Narrative<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">This course presents a historical overview of the American Slave Narrative.&nbsp;&nbsp;Participants will obtain knowledge of the narrative form as it evolved through time, first as a force for social change in the broader abolitionist literature, then as biography for selected African-American leaders, and finally as an attempt to record a history, through the ex-slave narratives of the 1930s.
