Strayer, <i> Elementary Number Theory<\/i>,  2002 edition,<br>\nWaveland Press.\n<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<dl>\n<h3>\n<dt> Course Description <\/dt>\n<\/h3>\n<dd>\nThis course is designed as an introduction to elementary number theory and<br>\nits applications for Mathematics and Computer Science  majors.  This course<br>\nis theoretical in nature.  Emphasis is placed on theory  and proofs.  We hope<br>\nto cover most of Chapters 1-5 of Strayer.  As  well we hope to cover some<br>\nadditional topics.  The basic topics include the greatest common divisor,<br>\nthe fundamental theorem of arithmetic, arithmetic functions, multiplicative<br>\nfunctions, congruences, the Chinese remainder theorem,  quadratic residues,<br>\nquadratic reciprocity and primitive roots. You may discuss homework with your class mates and Dr. Garvan. However it is not ok to copy anyone else&#8217;s work. The work you turn in must be your own.
