Groisser Dec 4 18:47 EST 2013 <\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Homework Rules<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Homework will be collected at the beginning of the period on the<br>\nannounced hand-in day, and must be completed and stapled together<br>\nbefore the start of the class period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Even when homework is well-written, reading and grading it is very<br>\ntime-consuming and physically difficult for your instructor. In order<br>\nthat this process note be more burdensome than it intrinsically needs to be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>The homework you hand in must be neat, and must either be typed<br>\nor written in pen (not pencil!).<\/strong> Please do not turn in homework that<br>\nis messy or that has anything that&#8217;s been erased and written over (or<br>\nwritten over without erasing), making it harder to read. Anything that is<br>\ndifficult for me to read will be returned to you ungraded.<\/li>\n<li>Work everything out for yourself on scrap paper first. Carefully rewrite<br>\nwhat you&#8217;re handing on clean sheets of 8.5&#8243; x 11&#8243; paper, <strong>leaving enough<br>\nspace for me to write comments.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Staple<\/strong> the sheets together in the upper left-hand corner. Any other means<br>\nof attachment makes more work for me. The staple should be close enough to the<br>\ncorner that when I turn pages, nothing that you&#8217;ve written is obscured. Also, don&#8217;t<br>\nuse paper that&#8217;s been ripped out of a spiral-bound notebook; it will make a mess on<br>\nmy floor.<\/li>\n<li><strong> Write in complete, unambiguous, grammatically correct, and correctly<br>\npunctuated sentences,<\/strong> just as you would find in your textbook.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Warn me about partial proofs.<\/strong> If a problem is of the form &#8220;Prove this&#8221; and you&#8217;ve<br>\nbeen unable to produce a complete proof, but want to show me how far you got, <strong>tell me<br>\nat the very start of the problem that your proof is not complete (before you start writing<br>\nany part of your attempted proof)<\/strong>. Do not just start writing a proof, and at some point<br>\nsay &#8220;This is as far as I got.&#8221; Otherwise, when I start reading I will assume that you think<br>\nyou&#8217;ve written a complete and correct proof, and spend too long thinking about, and writing<br>\ncomments on, false statements and approaches or steps that were doomed to go nowhere.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Academic honesty.<\/strong> On all work submitted for credit by students at the University of Florida,<br>\nthe following pledge is implied:<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><i>&#8220;On my honor, I have neither given nor received unauthorized aid in<br>\ndoing this assignment.&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>For purposes of preparing your hand-in homework, <strong>no aid that involves anything but your<br>\nown brain, your textbook, your notes, and any handouts from me, is authorized.<\/strong> The<br>\n&#8220;no aid&#8221; restriction doesn&#8217;t apply until I have announced the hand-in date for a given problem.<br>\nUp until that announcement, you&#8217;re allowed to work with each other, look at other textbooks,<br>\nask me for help, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>But once the hand-in date for a homework problem is announced, <strong>you are on your own<\/strong>.<br>\nRemember that you are supposed to do ALL assigned problems.
