rel=&#8221;attachment wp-att-153&#8243;&gt;&lt;\/a&gt; Retrieving vibracore from Indian River Lagoon seepage face<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><big><big><small><big><a href=\"https:\/\/people.clas.ufl.edu\/jbmartin\/coastal-aquifers-and-sea-level-rise\/\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Coastal aquifers and sea level change<\/span><\/a><br>\n<\/big><\/small><\/big><\/big><\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>I am interested in quantifying fluxes of water from coastal aquifers and its significance to water quality in estuarine and coastal surface water.\u00a0 This work has focused mostly on Indian River Lagoon on the east coast of Florida, but other areas include Tampa Bay, Bahamas, Barbados, Brazil, and the Yucatan.\u00a0 One particular emphasis of this work is the redox chemistry of lagoon sediment pore water and the relationships between remineralization of organic carbon and metal mobilization and greenhouse gas fluxes.\u00a0 My most recent work has been on the effects of sea level rise on these estuarine processes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-medium\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" src=\"https:\/\/people.clas.ufl.edu\/jbmartin\/files\/drainage-from-greenland-300x201.jpg\" alt=\"drainage from greenland\" class=\"wp-image-154\" srcset=\"https:\/\/people.clas.ufl.edu\/jbmartin\/files\/drainage-from-greenland-300x201.jpg 300w, https:\/\/people.clas.ufl.edu\/jbmartin\/files\/drainage-from-greenland-768x514.jpg 768w, https:\/\/people.clas.ufl.edu\/jbmartin\/files\/drainage-from-greenland-1024x685.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/people.clas.ufl.edu\/jbmartin\/files\/drainage-from-greenland-200x134.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">&lt;a href=&#8221;https:\/\/people.clas.ufl.edu\/jbmartin\/files\/drainage-from-greenland.jpg&#8221; rel=&#8221;attachment wp-att-154&#8243;&gt;&lt;\/a&gt; Drainage from the Greenland ice sheet<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/people.clas.ufl.edu\/jbmartin\/greenland-weathering\/\"><big><big><big><small><span style=\"color: #000000\">Weathering following ice sheet retreat<\/span><\/small><\/big><\/big><\/big><\/a><\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p>Retreat of continental ice sheets has exposed about 15% of Earth&#8217;s terrestrial landscape.\u00a0 My interest in these landscapes is to assess how exposure and related weathering, plant colonization and succession, and biogeochemical reactions have altered fluxes of solutes, nutrients, and radiogenic isotopes to coastal regions and modify fluxes and consumption of greenhouse gases in Earth&#8217;s atmosphere.\u00a0 This work has focused on several watersheds in southwest and south Greenland.\u00a0 This work is being supported through a recent NSF grant;
