The Department of Mathematics at the University of Florida invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor (non tenure-track) in the area of mathematical biology, with a particular interest in virus dynamics, theoretical immunology and epidemiology, beginning on January 1, 2018. The teaching assignment is 3 courses per year, 2 courses in the fall semester and 1 course in the spring semester, and participation in the research activities of the department is expected. Some additional support for travel is possible. A Ph.D. in the mathematical sciences or the equivalent is required. Candidates with strong promise in research and teaching are encouraged to apply.

The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, and includes a full benefits package. Appointment will be for one-year with the possibility of a one-year renewal contingent on satisfactory performance and funding.

The Department is committed to creating an environment that affirms diversity across a variety of dimensions, including ability, class, ethnicity/race, gender identity and expression. We particularly welcome applicants who can contribute to such an environment through their scholarship, teaching, mentoring, and professional service. The university and greater Gainesville community enjoy a diversity of culture, music, restaurants, year-round outdoor recreational activity, and social opportunities, including organizations that support the interests of people from varied backgrounds.

For full consideration, applications must be submitted online at http://explore.jobs.ufl.edu/cw/en-us/listing/504697 and must include: (1) a cover letter, (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) a research statement, (4) a teaching statement and (5) a list of three references. The Search Committee will begin reviewing applications on October 1, 2017 and continue accepting applications until the position is filled. All candidates for employment are subject to a pre-employment screening which includes a review of criminal records, reference checks, verification of education, and verification of eligibility for employment in the United States.

The final candidate will be required to provide an official transcript to the hiring department upon hire. A transcript will not be considered “official” if a designation of “Issued to Student” is visible. Degrees earned from an education institution outside of the United States are required to be evaluated by a professional credentialing service provider approved by National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), which can be found at http://www.naces.org/

The University of Florida is an Equal Opportunity Institution dedicated to building a broadly diverse and inclusive faculty and staff. The selection process will be conducted in accord with the provisions of Florida’s Government in the Sunshine and Public Records Laws. Search Committee meetings will be open to the public, and applications and many other documents related to the search will be available for public inspection.

Graduate and undergraduate students

A few graduate and undergraduate research assistant positions are available. My group is interested in infectious disease modeling. We use mathematical models, combined with computational and data analysis methods, to study various problems in virus infection and immune responses (within-host level). We are also interested in disease dynamics at the between-host level. These positions are supported by the National Science Foundation.
