SEX, MEN AND BABIES is a significant contribution to a surprisingly under-researched area: the meaning and place of fathering in the lives of young men.\u00a0 It is a valuable contribution to men’s studies, to gender studies, and to the sociology of the family.\ufffd<\/p>

One of the strengths of the book is that it takes cognition seriously.\u00a0 Subjective experiences are not reduced to “attitudes,” but are explored as symoblic terrains.<\/p>

Sex, Men, and Babies\u00a0<\/i>not only invites but encourages a reflexive and concerned approach to procreative consciousness and responsibility, and for that the authors are to be commended.\u00a0 The policy guidelines offered in the last chapter–as one might imagine, they are in favor of programs that provide opportunities for men to become aware of procreative issues–are reasonable and sound.\u00a0 Parent educators and government leaders, as well as family and gender researchers and cognitive sociologists, would find the book informative.<\/p>
