Can also be very useful for prospective and in-service secondary and middle school teachers. Taking one, but not both, of MAS 3300 or MHF 3202 is required of mathematics majors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Student Learning Outcomes for MHF3202: Sets and Logic<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Define and Apply Fundamental Set Concepts:<\/strong> Clearly define and utilize fundamental concepts related to sets, including operations, set theory, and Venn diagrams.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Construct and Interpret Logical Structures:<\/strong> Accurately construct and interpret truth tables and symbolic logic statements, translating between English and symbolic forms.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Develop and Present Mathematical Proofs:<\/strong> Employ various proof techniques\u2014such as direct proof, proof by contradiction, contrapositive proof, and mathematical induction\u2014to construct valid mathematical arguments.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Critically Evaluate Mathematical Arguments:<\/strong> Analyze and assess the validity and soundness of mathematical proofs and arguments presented by others.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Communicate Mathematical Reasoning Effectively:<\/strong> Articulate mathematical ideas and proofs clearly and concisely in written form, adhering to proper mathematical notation and terminology.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prerequisites<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>MAC 2312 with a minimum grade of C.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Textbook<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Book of Proof<\/em> by Richard Hammack, Third Edition. These exercises, along with classroom examples will form the basis for all exams. Not every textbook homework assignment will be checked, but it will be randomly collected periodically. You may check Canvas for the assignments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Exams<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There will be 2 exams in class. The 2 exam dates provided on the course schedule are TENTATIVE. Exam 1 is May 23rd and Exam 2 is June 6th.<br>\n<strong>Final Exam Date:<\/strong> June 20th in LIT 205 during 3rd period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Attendance Policy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You will need an iClicker account and mobile device\/clicker to participate in lectures. iClicker Cloud access is already included in your student fees. You are required to participate with the iClicker Cloud app on a smartphone, tablet or laptop. It is your responsibility to follow the steps below to properly register your iClicker account in a timely fashion. It is also your responsibility to regularly check your iClicker records for any discrepancies. Instead of offering makeup clicker sessions for absences, we drop a few iClicker sessions for everyone<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Registration in this course obligates the student to be regular and punctual in class attendance. Makeup exams will only be given in case of documented illness or for students participating in official College events. All late work will be penalized. Students will NOT be given the opportunity to complete old assignments at the end of the semester to improve their grades.
