My current activities\nspan undergraduate education, faculty development, student research and experiential learning,\nand university-level shared governance. I am particularly interested in service that connects\ndirectly with teaching, curriculum, faculty support, and the academic experience of students.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mathematics Department Service<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nFor the <strong>2026\u20132027 academic year<\/strong>, I serve in several areas of the\nDepartment of Mathematics related to teaching, undergraduate engagement, and faculty development.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Teaching Methods Committee<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nThe Teaching Methods Committee provides a forum for discussing and improving mathematics\ninstruction across the department. My work in course design, computational mathematics,\nonline instruction, assessment, accessibility, and instructional technology informs my\nparticipation on the committee.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Undergraduate Research &amp; Experiential Learning Committee<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nI serve on the department&#8217;s Undergraduate Research\/Experiential Learning Committee,\nsupporting opportunities for students to engage with mathematics beyond the traditional\nclassroom. This work complements my own mentoring of undergraduate research,\nindependent projects, and interdisciplinary senior-design teams.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Teaching Assistant Training<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nI contribute to the preparation and development of graduate Teaching Assistants.\nThis includes supporting TA orientation and discussing classroom practice, communication,\nassessment, course administration, and the transition from graduate student to classroom instructor.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Faculty Mentoring<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nI currently serve as a faculty mentor for <strong>James Ptacek<\/strong>, together with\nPatrick Carmichael. My mentoring focuses on teaching, course development, departmental\nprocedures, and navigating the responsibilities of an instructional faculty position.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/math.ufl.edu\/department\/mathematics-department-committees-2026-27\/\">\nView the Mathematics Department committees for 2026\u20132027\n<\/a>\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">University Service &amp; Shared Governance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nMy service has expanded beyond the Department of Mathematics into university-level\nfaculty governance and curriculum. These roles allow me to bring the perspective of\nan instructional faculty member, course developer, and undergraduate educator to\nconversations that affect the broader university.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">University of Florida Faculty Senate<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nI serve as a member of the\n<a href=\"https:\/\/senate.ufl.edu\/\"><strong>University of Florida Faculty Senate<\/strong><\/a>,\nparticipating in shared governance and representing faculty perspectives in discussions\nof university policy, academic affairs, and institutional priorities.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Research &amp; Scholarship Council<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nI serve on the Faculty Senate\n<a href=\"https:\/\/fora.aa.ufl.edu\/facultysenate\/Councils\/Research-and-Scholarship-Council\">\n<strong>Research &amp; Scholarship Council<\/strong><\/a>.\nThe Council considers university-wide policies and strategies related to research and scholarship,\nincluding research infrastructure, grants and contracts, scholarly activity, and the institutional\nenvironment supporting faculty research.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nServing on the Council gives me an opportunity to contribute the perspective of instructional\nfaculty and undergraduate educators to university-wide discussions of scholarship and\nacademic work.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">General Education Committee<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nI serve on the\n<a href=\"https:\/\/fora.aa.ufl.edu\/University\/JointCommittees\/General-Education-Committee\">\n<strong>University of Florida General Education Committee<\/strong><\/a>.\nThe committee reviews courses proposed for General Education and University Writing and\nMath requirements and helps evaluate the effectiveness and direction of UF&#8217;s general\neducation curriculum.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nThis work includes detailed review of proposed courses and syllabi, with particular attention\nto student learning outcomes, assessment, general education objectives, writing requirements,\nand alignment between course goals and assignments. My experience designing and teaching\nundergraduate mathematics courses provides a practical classroom perspective in these reviews.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n\n\n<li><strong>Assessment:<\/strong> work related to evaluating student learning and trends in UF&#8217;s General Education program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Writing Requirement:<\/strong> review of curriculum and syllabus requirements for courses carrying UF Writing Requirement credit.<\/li>\n\n\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Service Philosophy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\nI view service as closely connected to teaching. Committee work gives me a broader understanding\nof how curriculum, assessment, faculty governance, and university policy affect students and\ninstructors.
