One of my books, <em>Mothers and Such: Views of American Women and Why They Changed<\/em> (1984), analyzes the material causes for shifts in American attitudes towards women&#8217;s employment, housework and child care from Colonial days to the present. A new edition, <em>True to Her Nature<\/em>, was published in 2000.Her most recent publication dealing with gender roles is <em>Women in Fundamentalism: Modesty, Marriage and Motherhood<\/em> (2020).<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Over the last two and one half decades my research has focused on Brazilian emigration. In addition to numerous articles, I have written three books on the subject: <em>Little Brazil: Brazilian Immigrants in New York City<\/em> (1994); <em>An Invisible Minority: Brazilians in New York City<\/em> (2009); and <em>Goodbye Brazil: Emigr\u00e9s from the Land of Soccer and Samba<\/em> (2013).
