{"id":2,"date":"2012-09-04T13:39:49","date_gmt":"2012-09-04T17:39:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/people.clas.ufl.edu\/template\/?page_id=2"},"modified":"2026-03-19T08:36:16","modified_gmt":"2026-03-19T12:36:16","slug":"home","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/people.clas.ufl.edu\/michellephillips\/","title":{"rendered":"Home"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<section class=\"fullwidth-text-block\">\r\n\t<div class=\"container px-0 pt-5\">\r\n\t\t<div class=\"row align-items-start\">\r\n\t\t\t<div class=\"col-12\">\r\n\t\t\t\t\n<p><strong>Associate Instructional Professor, Economics Department.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Research Associate, Public Utility Research Center.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"markkytv3517y\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\" data-olk-copy-source=\"MessageBody\">Michelle<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"markxtl4asdzr\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">Phillips<\/span> received her Ph.D. from the University of Florida in 2012 and\u00a0is an Associate Instructional Professor in the <a href=\"https:\/\/economics.clas.ufl.edu\/\">Department of Economics<\/a>. \u00a0She teaches several undergraduate courses such as Intermediate Microeconomics and Empirical Research in Economics.\u00a0<span class=\"markkytv3517y\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">Michelle<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"markxtl4asdzr\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">Phillips<\/span>\u00a0is the undergraduate honors thesis coordinator, and as such coordinates the process for all students graduating with high honors and mentors over 20 students annually as they write and defend their honors theses.\u00a0<span class=\"markkytv3517y\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">Michelle<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"markxtl4asdzr\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">Phillips<\/span>\u00a0also mentors students working on research awards, which have included University Scholars, Cutler Scholars, and Askew Scholars and is currently a Research Associate at the Public Policy Research Center. Her research focuses on public policy issues in the infrastructure and education sectors. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed publications on topics spanning water benchmarking, electricity incentives for quality improvements, water utility mergers, and education.\u00a0<span class=\"markkytv3517y\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">Michelle<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"markxtl4asdzr\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">Phillips<\/span>\u00a0has previously worked as an Economist at the Public Utility Research Center and served as a consultant to the World Bank.
