Office: Little Hall 362
Office Hours: M 7, W 6, F 3
Description and Goals
The text for the course is
Principles of Mathematical Analysis, by Walter Rudin, McGraw-Hill 1976.
In this course we will cover most of chapters 7 and 10 of the text. Topics include sequences and series of functions, and the Lebesgue integral. We may cover some topics from Chapter 8 as time allows. For the material on the Lebesgue integral we will deviate somewhat from the treatment in Rudin and I will post lecture notes in Canvas.
Here is the webpage for last semester’s course.
Exams and Grading
“Because thought has by now been perverted into the solving of assigned problems, even what is not assigned is processed like a problem.”
–Theodor Adorno
There will be two exams during the term, each counting for 1/4 of the grade. There will be 10 homework assignments during the term (roughly one per week excluding exam weeks); homework average will count for 1/2 the final grade.
