In this course we will cover most of chapters 1–6 of the text. Topics include the real and complex number systems, metric spaces and basic topology, (especially compact sets), sequences and series, continuity, differentiation, the mean value theorem, Taylor’s theorem, and the Riemann integral.

Exams and Grading

“Because thought has by now been perverted into the solving of assigned problems, even what is not assigned is processed like a problem.”  –Theodor Adorno

There will be two exams during the term, each counting for 1/4 of the grade. There will be 10 homework assignments during the term (roughly one per week excluding exam weeks); homework average will count for 1/2 the final grade.
