He joined the University of Florida Department of History in 1992.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>He has published four books:\u00a0<em>Feeble-Minded in our Midst<\/em>\u00a0(1995);\u00a0<em>Mental Retardation in America<\/em>\u00a0(2004);\u00a0<em>Ditch of Dreams: The Cross-Florida Barge Canal and the Struggle for Florida&#8217;s Future<\/em>\u00a0(2009); and most recently\u00a0<em>Writing for the Public Good: Essays from David R. Colburn and Sen. Bob Graham<\/em>, which he edited (2022) .\u00a0<em>Ditch of Dreams<\/em>\u00a0started through a grant from the State of Florida&#8217;s Department of Environmental Protection and was researched and written in collaboration with Professor David Tegeder.
