Bartlett<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">BACKGROUND<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Rodney J. Bartlett pioneered the development of coupled-cluster theory and its many-body perturbation theory approximations, that today, offer the best, <em>ab initio<\/em>, \u00a0solution for the electron correlation problem in molecules. The rationale for these many-body methods is correct scaling with the number of electrons&#8212;size-extensivity&#8212; a concept he introduced.\u00a0 His work has been recognized by the ACS Award in Theoretical Chemistry, (2007), the Schrodinger Medal of WATOC (2008), and the Boys-Rahman award of the Royal Society of Chemistry (2009).
