Marhabaan!
I am Matthew Skolar, a graduate student on the Hispanic Linguistics track in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies. I graduated from Davidson College in 2024 where I majored in Linguistics and minored in Arabic. One of my undergraduate study abroad experiences was in Carthage, Tunisia where I studied both Modern Standard Arabic and Tunisian Arabic Dialect, and I have also visited Morocco. While my primary research interests are in Spanish, I learned Arabic to live the experience of learning a language from scratch for the first time as well as to connect with the incredibly rich cultures of Southwest Asia and North Africa. As a fellow second language learner of Arabic with research interests in language education, I hope I can be helpful to you in your Arabic language learning journey.
Tutoring Hours:
Available by appointment virtually or on campus in Dauer Hall Office 3C (in the basement).
