Analysis Seminar Spring 2018
|
Upcoming Seminars (7th hour Fridays in LIT368)
Tuesday 1 May.
- Speaker: Alejandra Maestripieri
- Title: Procrustes type problems in Hilbert space.
- Friday 20 April.
- Speaker: Jindrich Zapletal.
- Title: A course in descriptive set theory.
- Abstract: In the fall and spring, I will offer a two semester sequence in descriptive set theory. The fall will be spent exploring the basics of Polish spaces and Borel and analytic sets; the spring will be devoted to the theory of Borel reducibility of equivalence relations. Applications to the methodology of mathematical analysis will be discussed throughout.
- Friday 13 April
- Speaker: Meric Augat.
- Title: The Free Grothendieck Theorem II.
- Friday 30 March.
- Speaker: Meric Augat.
- Title: The Free Grothendieck Theorem I.
- Abstract: A remarkable pair of theorems of Grothendieck say if p : C g → C g is an injective polynomial, then p is bijective and its inverse is a polynomial. We embark upon proving a free analog of this. A free polynomial mapping in g freely non-commuting variables sends g-tuples of matrices (of the same size) to g-tuples of matrices (of the same size). Our result is as follows; if p is a free polynomial mapping that is injective, then it has a free polynomial inverse. We will make use of a free version of the Jacobian Conjecture as well as results from free analysis, formal power series and skew fields.
