Stephen C. Phillips is doctoral candidate in political science at the University of Florida, focusing on American political and legislative development. He holds a master’s degree in political science from UF and the University of Central Florida, where he also received a bachelor’s degree in political science. Stephen’s current research focuses on American constitutional development and periodicity in U.S. history.
Understanding the connections between constitutional design, temporality, and the evolving American democratic framework drives Stephen’s research. He is particularly interested in institutional development, parties in government, legislative behavior, and political strategy. Stephen’s academic research has explored periodicity in American history contemporarily by examining the voting patterns of Tea Party Caucus members in the U.S. House, and in the Founding Era by examining legislative debates at the Constitutional Convention. He also has an interest in Public Policy & Administration and Research Methods, which are his minor fields.
Prior to coming to the University of Florida, Stephen previously worked on federal political campaigns in 2010 and 2012, and served as an elected member of the Student Government Association at UCF.
