to Real Analysis<\/i>, 4th edition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Course content<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A rigorous treatment of the foundations of Calculus including the real numbers; metric spaces; continuity, differentiation; and sequences and series of functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to mastery of the course content, course objectives include reading, writing, and discovering proofs and constructing proofs and counterexamples in analysis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Expectations<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Work submitted for a grade in this course will be graded in a most rigorous fashion, and thusly, such work should have a good deal of thought and care put into it. Work which is sloppy or messy or that which is not written in a clear and coherent fashion will be marked down. This includes losing points for grammatical errors, spelling mistakes, and similar offenses. This course is a gateway course to many upper-division mathematics courses, and the high level of work that will be expected in this course is to ensure that students who pass this course have the best opportunity for success in future math courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Evaluation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There will be 6 quizzes and 6 homework assignments throughout the semester, as indicated in the schedule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>All quizzes will be open-book and open-note. Late homework will not be accepted except by prior agreement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Your course score will consist of your homework average (40% of the score) and your quiz average (60% of the score). Final letter grades will be assigned on a curve, which will be no tougher than the 10-point scale: 90%\u2013100% will be some form of A, 80\u201390% will be at least some form of B, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>If you have a disagreement with the grading of one of your solutions, I ask that you submit a written request for reconsideration within one month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Grading will be in accordance with the UF policy stated at <a style=\"color: #243778\" href=\"https:\/\/catalog.ufl.edu\/ugrad\/current\/regulations\/info\/grades.aspx\">https:\/\/catalog.ufl.edu\/ugrad\/current\/regulations\/info\/grades.aspx.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Honor code<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>UF students are bound by The Honor Pledge which states, \u201cWe, the members of the University of Florida community, pledge to hold ourselves and our peers to the highest standards of honor and integrity by abiding by the Honor Code. Students who participate with their camera engaged or utilize a profile image are agreeing to have their video or image recorded.  If you are unwilling to consent to have your profile or video image recorded, be sure to keep your camera off and do not use a profile image. Likewise, students who un-mute during class and participate orally are agreeing to have their voice recorded.  If you are not willing to consent to have your voice recorded during class, you will need to keep your mute button activated and communicate exclusively using the &#8220;chat&#8221; feature, which allows students to type questions and comments live. The chat will not be recorded or shared.
