Newborn\u00a0<em>Tupaia<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/people.clas.ufl.edu\/vdeleon\/content-removed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-341 MB)<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This module shows the relationship between cranial base, facial skeleton, and cartilaginous nasal capsule in a newborn <em>Tupaia<\/em>.\u00a0 <em>Tupaia<\/em>, the tree shrew, is a sister taxon to Primates, and we use this animal to estimate the ancestral condition.\u00a0 Key perspectives in the module show how the cartilaginous\u00a0<strong>posterior nasal cupula<\/strong> creates a framework around which intramembranous bone is shaped.\u00a0\u00a0In our collaborative work with Dr. Timothy Smith, Slippery Rock University, we have shown that early degradation of the posterior nasal cupula is associated with reduction in the midfacial skeleton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This module is an
