Book Project<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Politics of the Deformed: the biology of non-citizens in Aristotle’s best state<\/i><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The telos<\/i> of both the natural world and human society is the fully actualized human male.\u00a0 The human female falls short of this telos<\/i> in all respects: biological, ethical, and political.\u00a0 Natural slaves and craftsmen, through their assimilation to women, are also precluded from citizenship in Aristotle’s best state. \u00a0(The January 2015 Arethusa<\/em> article is derived from this project.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sculpture\u00a0Project<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As part of my research into ancient sculpting methods, I took a marble sculpture\u00a0class in Carrara, Italy in summer 2014. \u00a0I also participated in a demonstration of\u00a0\u00a0the ancient method of ‘pointing,’ using calipers, to transfer measurements from a plaster model to a stone block. \u00a0The plan is to incorporate this research with my\u00a0encaustic research (below) into a book on ancient Greek stone carving and painting methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Encaustic Project<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
