As a young scholar, I spent several years living in Spain. Having previously only learned Spanish in a traditional classroom, this time in an unfamiliar environment challenged my ethnocentric biases and broadened my understanding of the world. I gained a deep appreciation for experiential learning which drives my current enthusiasm and commitment to facilitate service-learning and community engagement opportunities as a catalyst for students to develop cultural consciousness and anti-discriminatory attitudes.
