Background

Andréa Ferreira is Lecturer of Portuguese in the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies at the University of Florida. She coordinates the Portuguese lower division courses, and recently served as the director of the University of Florida Summer Study Abroad Program in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She has taught courses on Brazilian culture and civilization, mega-events, race and national identity in Brazil as well as introduction to the Portuguese language. She has also developed and taught courses on Portuguese translation/interpretation and tourism in Brazil, and is currently working with the Center for Latin American Studies and the Department of Spanish and Portuguese Studies to create a Certificate in Portuguese for the Professions. As a Brazilian Studies MALAS alumnus and a History PhD candidate, Andréa values interdisciplinary and transnational approaches to the study of Brazil.
