MAC 1140 is Precalculus Algebra without trigonometry. This class can be used as a prereq (along with the standalone Trig class) to move on to Calculus 1 (MAC 2211) or Business Calc 1 (Survey of Calculus; MAC 2233).
For MAC1140 we use a Xronos Text written by me as a free alternative to online homework and/or a textbook. You can get a pdf of the online text if you wish to have a printed version of the textbook, but in order to get the most recent version you should email me directly to ask for one (I am happy to provide it!) Keep in mind that the Xronos Text for this class is an ongoing project and although it has come a long way there is still more to do to make it as good as I would like it to be. I also actively solicit feedback from students on ways to make it better, so if you have suggestions or features you wish Xronos would have, please please please email me and let me know (or, if you are a current student, post in the discussion board and earn some extra credit!)
To be clear: I have removed all elements of this course that cost students money (aside from the tuition of course, sadly I cannot control that part!) Despite what you may read or hear anywhere else, including from the registrars office, you should not need to buy anything for this course!
Furthermore I have written a lengthy and comprehensive FAQ for this course that covers most students questions, either in anticipation of taking the course, or for those currently enrolled. You can access the FAQ here. If you have questions you think should be added to the FAQ (perhaps questions you hear your fellow students asking a lot) please let me know so I can add them and make the FAQ more helpful! (Note: Some browsers don’t support internal links on pdfs in the preview mode. You can download the FAQ and the questions will link from the question list at the start to the answers, to make navigation far easier.)
