I am an Associate Instructional Professor in the University of Florida Department of Mathematics. My work focuses on undergraduate mathematics education, particularly the intersection of mathematics, computation, programming, and emerging technology.

I develop and teach courses that ask students to move between mathematical theory and computation: understanding why a method works, implementing it, testing it, and communicating the result. My teaching makes extensive use of Python, open-source resources, interactive computation, and the careful use of artificial intelligence as a learning tool.

Teaching & Curriculum Development

A major part of my work at UF has been developing and redesigning undergraduate mathematics courses. I created MAD 2502 — Computational Mathematics with Python, which grew from a pilot course into a regular UF offering, and I have continued to revise it as Python, data science, and generative AI have changed computational mathematics.

I have also extensively redesigned MAD 4401 — Introduction to Numerical Analysis, moving the course from proprietary software to Python and open-source resources and developing a fully online version in collaboration with UF’s Center for Instructional Technology and Training.

Undergraduate Mentoring

I mentor undergraduate students on projects that connect mathematics with computer science, data science, and artificial intelligence. These have included senior design projects in CISE, computational course-development projects, and undergraduate research involving AI-driven applications.

Projects I have advised have included AI-assisted programming tools, educational games, computer graphics and ray tracing, mobile applications, and AI-driven tools for improving student engagement at UF.

Service & University Governance

My service spans both the Department of Mathematics and university-level shared governance. Within Mathematics, I currently serve on the Teaching Methods Committee, Undergraduate Research/Experiential Learning Committee, and TA Training, and I participate in faculty mentoring.

At the university level, I serve in the University of Florida Faculty Senate, on the Research and Scholarship Council, and on the General Education Committee. This work gives me the opportunity to contribute to university policy and curriculum beyond the mathematics classroom.
