Course Description:  First-order ordinary differential equations, theory of linear ordinary differential equations, solution of linear ordinary differential equations with constant coefficients, the Laplace transform and its application to solving linear ordinary differential equations.

Prerequisites: MAC 2312, MAC 2512 or MAC 3473 with a minimum grade of C.

Textbook: R. Kent Nagle, Edward B. Saff and Authur David Snider. Fundamentals of differential equations and boundary value problems. Seventh Edition. (Pearson) (2019). ISBN: 978-0321977106

Office Hours: I will be available after class 3rd period on MWF or by an appointment.

Grades: Your course grade is based on 3 exams worth 45% total, a final exam worth 20%, homework will count 10% total, Projects will count 15% total and Quizzes will count 10% total.

We will use the following scale:

A  [90,100]; A-[87,90); B+[83,87); B [80,83); B-[77,80); C+[73,77); C [68,73);
C-[64,68); D+[62,64); D [57,62); D-[55,57);  E [0,55)

 

Your grade is your responsibility. You have exactly one week once your assignment has been returned to you to discuss that grade. After that week, the grade is final. No additional points will be awarded to “boost” your grade.

Homework: Exercises will be assigned from the text or through Canvas. These exercises, along with classroom examples will form the basis for all exams. Not every textbook homework assignment will be checked, but it will be randomly collected periodically. You may check Canvas for the assignments.

Quizzes: Quizzes will be done in class or in Canvas and are usually timed. The lowest quiz score will be dropped. Typically, there will be two a week.

Projects: This class will be assigned projects to be submitted through Canvas. Groups will be automatically assigned. We will be using Mathematica which can be accessed for free here: http://info.apps.ufl.edu/

Exams: There will be 3 exams in class. The 3 exams dates provided on the course schedule are TENTATIVE. Your final may replace the lowest exam score.

Final Exam Date: June 17 in LIT 205 during 3rd period. (Subject to change)

Attendance Policy: Registration in this course obligates the student to be regular and punctual in class attendance. Makeup exams will only be given in case of documented illness or for students participating in official College events. All late work will be penalized. Students will NOT be given the opportunity to complete old assignments at the end of the semester to improve their grades. Calculator Policy:  You may need a scientific calculator, or graphing calculators to help with homework questions. Calculators will not be allowed on exams.

Discussion Board Participation: Each module will have a discussion board available to discuss the current content. You may earn credit by participating in the discussion board, either by asking questions or posting answers. Feel free to post questions about homework, quizzes, lectures etc.
