Course Description: A General Education course. Topics include numbers, financial management, linear and exponential growth, modeling, probability. This course does not require the student to have taken MGF 1106. This course is designed to serve non-science and non-business majors in fulfilling their Gordon Rule mathematics requirement.
Textbook: Using & Understanding Mathematics, 5th Edition by Bennett and Briggs ( ISBN-10: 0321652797 ).
Grades:
5 Quizzes: Every Wed ( except Aug 6th ); in class; 7% each; the lowest score will be dropped,
3 Tests: : July 11, July 21, Aug 4; in class; 24% each; the lowest score will be dropped,
Final Exam: Aug 8; 24%; in class
Homework will be assigned but will not be collected.
There will be NO MAKE-UPS.
Grading scale: A [ 90 – 100 ]; A- [ 87 – 89 ]; B+ [ 83 – 86 ]; B [ 80 – 82 ]; B- [77 – 79 ]; C+ [ 73 – 76 ]; C [ 68 – 72 ]; D [ 60 – 67 ]; E [ 0 – 59 ]. ( .5 % will be rounded up )
* Your grade is your responsibility. You have exactly one week once your assignment has been returned to you to discuss that grade. After that week, the grade is final.
Attendance Policy: Registration in this course obligates the student to be regular and punctual in class attendance.
Calculator Policy: You will need a scientific calculator, no graphing calculators. Cellphones will NOT be allowed as a substitution for a calculator.
