Announcements:New: UF issued an update on its S-U policy for undergraduate Spring 2020 courses only. The students can decide to stay with a letter grade or switch to an S/U option. For more details, please click here. One thing I would like to add is that if you decide to use an S/U course as a prereq for another course, the grade of S counts as a C.
To limit the Covid-19 spread on UF campus, starting on 03/13/20 and until the end of the semester (unless noted otherwise), our class will meet online only. Here is what to expect:
The lectures will be delivered as video conferences via zoom through the course’s canvas page. Each conference will commence 5 minutes prior to the official class meeting time, that is, at 9:30. Please, sign in via canvas in the timely fashion. All conferences will be recorded in the cloud, so you will have access to the previously recorded lectures. Hopefully, this will work, otherwise I will have to think of alternate ways to deliver the content.
The office hours will be held online as a discussion on canvas. Please, check on canvas to make sure that you have access to “Virtual Office Hour MAP 2302”. For all personal communications, please use the e-mail.
All tests/quizzes from now on will be done in take home format. Specifically, for each test/quiz I will create a separate assignment with the attached pdf file containing the test problems. Please, complete the problems on paper (or otherwise),
scan all pages into a single pdf file, and submit you solutions with this pdf file in attachment. To make sure that this format works, I created a test assignment asking you to submit a pdf file with your UF ID by midnight of March 11, 2020.
Any updates, announcements etcetera will now be posted on canvas. If something does not work properly, please let me know and we’ll figure out how to fix it.

Textbook: Fundamentals of Differential Equations and Boundary Value Problems, 8th ed., by Nagle, Saff, and Snider.
Critical dates: Jan. 6 (classes begin), Apr. 22 (classes end). Midterms: M1 – 01/31, M2 – 02/28, M3 – 03/20, M4 – 04/17.

Description and Objectives of the Course: This course introduces basic concepts of differential equations and presents analytical tools for solving these. Some classical applications are discussed in detail. The course covers chapters 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, and 8 (if time permits).
Grading System: There is no final exam for this course. The grade is determined by the cumulative score on 4 midterms (25 points each) that are based on homework problems. The letter grade is determined according to the following table

Course policies:
Closed-book policy: No use of calculators, notes or books is allowed during in-class tests.
Grading disputes: Any issues or questions about the grading of exams must be brought to the instructor’s attention within one week after the exams are returned to the class.
Excused absences: In certain circumstances a student will be able to make up a missed exam. These circumstances could include medical situations, family emergencies, travel for University activities (eg. band, debating club, etc), and religious observances. In these cases the student must inform the instructor before or within one week after the missed work and provide written documentation.

Most students benefit a great deal from attending class regularly. Arriving late and/or leaving early, reading the newspaper, looking at your cell phone, etc. disrupts the class and is rude and unprofessional.
