Mentoring

Graduate Mentoring

Most, over 70%, of my publications include graduate student coauthors from UF and other institutions across the United States (e.g., Tennessee State University, University of Tennessee- Knoxville, University of Nevada, Utah State University, University of Maryland). Most of my graduate students have received various national awards form APA Divisions 17, 44, and 45, as well as the National Latinx Psychological Association. My graduate students have been awarded numerous grants such as the Charles T. Wood Grants from the Center for Gender, Sexualities and Women’s Studies Research at UF. In addition, I facilitate opportunities for my students to be involved with different organizations (e.g., La Casita) and university initiatives (e.g., Student Mental Health Initiative). Furthermore, I regularly offer graduate students the opportunity to peer-review papers for various journals.

Undergraduate Mentoring

Since 2020, I have mentored over 26 undergraduate students. Specifically, undergraduate students have been involved on research tasks such as systematic literature reviews, qualitative and quantitative data analysis, and research dissemination. Many of hese students have presented at the PGSO undergraduate research forum at UF. Furthermore, I have supervised one (1) Honors Thesis (which was published in a peer-reviewed journal) and many of the undergraduate students have been offered graduate admissions to both Master and PhD programs across different fields in psychology.

Note: It should be noted that all (100%) of the PhD students I have mentored and over 70% of the undergraduate students I mentor are students of Color, and over 80% of these students identify as LGBTQ.
