Congratulations, Sacha Sides!

Sacha was selected as part of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Scholars Program for the 2024-2025 academic year. He will be continuing his research on the deciduous dentition of the aye-aye as he works on his senior honors thesis.

New publication alert!

We are excited to share our newest publication in Tomography of Materials and Structures, “The role of networks to overcome large-scale challenges in tomography: The non-clinical tomography users research network.”

Valerie and Katie were ecstatic to contribute to the amazing work with NoCTURN that addresses the ongoing efforts of the Network to address barriers to recently proposed FAIR (Findability, Accessibility, Interoperability, Reuse) and open science principles. In this, we outline our intentions to standardize CT data and metadata for reuse. We also discuss how to create interdisciplinary collaborations and new opportunities for large-scale data projects.

Sacha Sides accepted to the 2024 SR-EIP

Congratulations, Sacha!

Sacha was accepted to participate in the Summer Research Early Identification Program for Summer 2024 where will be doing research at the University of Chicago as part of the Organismal Biology and Anatomy department. He is excited about this experience and the opportunity to learn new research skills!

Sacha Sides’ report from the 2024 AAA meeting

Reconnecting and building new friendships – AABA 2024

DeLeon lab members met at the AABA 2024 annual meeting in Los Angeles, California where they were able to reconnect with some current undergraduate and graduate students and anthropology post-grads.

Isis Dwyer – Podium presentation at AABA 2024

Isis Dwyer, Ph.D. candidate, presented her fantastic work titled “Lessons From Anthro-Cast: Ethical Futures in Casting, Curation, and Repair” at this year’s AABA annual meeting in Los Angeles, California. Congratulations on an amazing podium presentation!

Isis Dwyer and Andree Cunningham (lab alum) chair session at AABA 2024

Andree Cunningham, Ph.D. (Boston University), Isis Dwyer Ph.D. candidate, and Delande Justinvil, Ph.D. candidate (American University) chaired a fantastic session titled “Beyond Bones, Bodies, and Behavior: Shifting the Disciplinary Landscape towards Biocultural Bodies” which illustrates the importance of reflecting on the history of the field and sets the scene for a more progressive and inclusive future for the field of Biological Anthropology. Congratulations on a successful and well-received session!

Sacha Sides attended the 2023 Summer Research Early Identification Program at Brown University

This summer, Sacha participated in the Summer Research Early Identification Program at Brown University as part of the Ecology, Evolution, and Organismal Biology department. Sacha spent nine weeks learning XROMM methods and workflows, and gained skills in dissection, surgery, and data analysis. He gave an oral presentation as part of this experience at the Leadership Alliance National Symposium and a poster at the Brown Summer Research Symposium at the end of the summer, and will be presenting a poster at SICB in January.

Congratulations to MA graduate Katie Franklin!

Congratulations to Katie Franklin on her successful defense of her Master’s work, The Ontogeny of Nocturnal Primate Middle Ear Morphology! We are excited for her to continue her work with the DeLeon Lab as she progresses in her PhD program!

Reporting from the NoCTURN 2023 meeting

The first annual NoCTURN (Non-Clinical Tomography Users Research Network) All-Network in-person meeting in Austin, Texas was one for the books! Dr. Valerie DeLeon and Katie Franklin joined 60 attendees to talk tomography and address the problems facing the field.
