Welcome to Yuta Lab

We are an experimental particle physics group at the University of Florida, working at the energy frontier with the CMS experiment at CERN. Our research is driven by a central question: why does nature distinguish between different generations of fundamental particles?

To tackle this puzzle, we use tau leptons as key probes — performing precision measurements, developing cutting-edge trigger algorithms for the High-Luminosity LHC, and contributing to next-generation detector technologies. We are part of a global collaboration pushing the boundaries of what is measurable at the world’s most powerful particle collider.

Research Focus

Tau lepton physics

Tau Lepton Physics

We perform physics analyses centered on tau leptons, including the measurement of the Bs → ττ branching fraction using tt̄ events. Tau leptons serve as unique probes of new interactions that distinguish fermion flavors, and are at the heart of our search program at CMS.

Tau trigger

Tau Lepton Trigger at L1

We develop tau lepton trigger algorithms for the Level-1 (L1) trigger system, targeting the High-Luminosity LHC era. Our work covers both the standard L1 trigger path and the novel L1 scouting stream, enabling new physics searches that were previously inaccessible due to trigger bandwidth limitations.

Detector Development

We are involved in next-generation detector R&D, including Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (MAPS) for future collider experiments, and spintronics-based circuits for energy-efficient neuromorphic sensing — exploring the intersection of particle physics instrumentation and novel electronics technologies.
