Textbook: FUNDAMENTALS OF DIFFERENTIAL EQUATIONS AND BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEMS, Nagle, Saff and Snider, 8th Ed.
Brief description: We will cover chapters 1 through 8. This includes among other things linear differential equations with constant coefficients, Laplace transform, and power series solutions. Several sections of Chapter 3, 5, and 6 will be left out.
Grading system: There will be three in-class midterms and a final, all of the same weight. The exams are open book open notes. The first midterm covers Chapters 1, 2 and 3, the second midterm covers Chapters 4,5 and 6, the third midterm covers Chapter 7, the final covers Chapter 8 (i.e. the final is not cumulative). The dates of the midterms are Sep 14, Oct 12, Nov 16, all Wednesdays; the final will take place on Monday, Dec 12, 12:30–2:30pm. Homework will be assigned at the end of almost every lecture; these assignments will not be collected or graded. Attendance will not be taken. The total grade will be determined using a straight scale (i.e. A=94-100, A-=90–93 etc. )
