For graduate students

I work with students in our MA and PhD programs in Religion in the Americas and Religion and Nature.  In addition, I serve as an outside member on graduate committees in a number of departments, including Anthropology, History, Political Science, and Sociology, among others.  I am also an affiliate of the School of Natural Resources, the Center for Latin American Studies, the Tropical Conservation and Development Program, and the Center for Gender, Sexualities, and Women’s Studies Research, and I work with graduate students in those areas as well.

I have advised PhD students working Team Ignoranceon a wide range of topics. Past and current dissertation topics have included the religious and ethical dimensions of fly fishing, Muslim agrarianism, sanctuary churches, food ethics, charismatic Christianity in the Americas, and the concept of the “mixed community” in Mary Midgley, among others.

In general, I will serve as an outside member only for graduate students who have taken a class with me and who are working in a field related to my own areas of interest – environmental ethics, social ethics, religion and social change, religion in Latin America, animal studies, and social movements.

I am happy to meet with potential graduate students in religion and other departments at UF.  Please get in touch if you’d like to arrange a meeting!
