Potential graduate students should have an interest in studying the neurobiology of drug addiction or the long-term effects of stress. The Psychology Department and the University of Florida provide a competitive environment for graduation education in behavioral neuroscience. There are numerous required and elective courses for the degree offered within the Psychology Dept. but graduate students also have the opportunity to take graduate courses in outside departments/colleges such as Pharmacy, Genetics, and Neuroscience.
The University of Florida has a large group of addiction researchers housed within a variety of departments and colleges, including Pharmacology, Neurosciences, Psychiatry and Psychology. The Center for Addiction Research and Education provides a forum for these researchers to come together to share data, form collaborations and apply for funding. Another source of enrichment for the graduate program is the weekly Neuroscience Seminar Series within the Neuroscience Department, in which seminars are presented by renowned speakers from outside the university as well as department faculty, post-docs and graduate students.
My lab generally accepts one new graduate student for each academic year. If you are interested in applying, I suggest you email me your CV with a brief introduction so that I can keep my eye out for your application.
